Ardenwald-Johnson Creek neighborhood, SE Portland
Ardenwald-Johnson Creek (AJC) is officially recognized as being both apart of the City of Portland and the City of Milwaukie. Some residents live in the bounds of both cities. The community participates in Milwaukie neighborhood programs as well as Portland's SE Uplift Neighborhood Program.
Residents of AJC enjoy biking, jogging, and strolling along the Springwater Corridor which passes through Tideman Johnson Park. The park is home to coyotes, beavers, waterfowls, and dozens of other bird species (including the occasional bald eagle). There is currently a comprehensive plan to recover salmon and steelhead runs.
Summers provide an opportunity for people to meet up at weekly Concerts in the Park at Ardenwald Park across from the school. Young and old alike can enjoy a free evening of bluegrass, rock, jazz, and world music while getting to know their neighbors.
Ardenwald Elementary is the only school in the neighborhood and is the hub of community life.
Many residents of this SE Portland community enjoy various types of home styles, large yards, and a handful of independent businesses (including Milwaukie Cafe and Bottle Shop, a much loved place to gather in the neighborhood). The community has managed to keep a relatively low profile with a friendly, old-fashioned, country feel.
Ardenwald-Johnson Creek has a notably active neighborhood association. If you'd like more information on the community you can find a link to their page here.
